The West has set a deadline for Iran for a nuclear agreement

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Foreign Ministers of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom set a strict deadline for the nuclear deal with Iran

This is reported by Axios, citing sources.

During a telephone conversation, diplomats from the four countries agreed that the end of August would be the last chance to reach an agreement on Iran's nuclear program. If there is no progress by the specified deadline, the European trio intends to activate the "snapback" mechanism for UN Security Council sanctions that were lifted under the historic 2015 deal.

According to sources, European diplomats are preparing to begin intensive negotiations with Iran in the near future. They plan to convince Tehran that sanctions can be avoided, but for this, the Islamic Republic must take concrete steps confirming the peaceful nature of its nuclear program.

Among the key requirements is the resumption of IAEA monitoring, which Iran suspended after military strikes by Israel and the US on its nuclear facilities. Tehran is also expected to remove from the country about 400 kg of highly enriched uranium (up to 60%), currently in the possession of Iranian authorities.

Axios notes that US President Donald Trump's administration is actively trying to resume the negotiation process with the Islamic Republic. At the same time, the American leader expresses disappointment that Iran still avoids returning to the negotiating table.
