The head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg was arrested on serious charges

Moscow's Basmanny Court has issued an in-absentia arrest warrant for the head of the Azerbaijani diaspora Shakhin Shikhlinskiy after he was placed on the federal wanted list

This is reported by the e1.ru portal.

According to available information, Shikhlinskiy was hiding for some time in the Azerbaijani Embassy in Moscow, the territory of which is inviolable for Russian law enforcement agencies. After diplomatic negotiations, the head of the diaspora voluntarily left the embassy, surrendered to authorities and was transferred to Yekaterinburg, where he participated in necessary investigative procedures and was subsequently placed in a pre-trial detention center.

According to preliminary data, the head of the Ural diaspora is charged with involvement in the attempted murder of Fekhruz Shirinov (Article 30, Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), as well as using violence against a government official (Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

Shakhin Shikhlinskiy's defense attorney, in a comment to e1.ru, emphasized that his client categorically denies his guilt and plans to appeal the court's decision on arrest. Representatives of the Basmanny Court were unable to promptly comment on the situation in response to a call and written request from journalists.

The attempted murder of Fekhruz Shirinov occurred in 2010, several years after the murder of Yunus Pashayev. However, Shirinov managed to avoid tragedy – the attacker's weapon misfired. According to the investigation, the perpetrator was Elman Suleymanov, an Azerbaijani citizen, who later died of natural causes. Before his death, he allegedly revealed the name of the person who ordered the crime.

Earlier in Yekaterinburg, Shakhin Shikhlinskiy's son, Mutvali, was arrested. The court determined his preventive measure as detention for a period of two months. The arrest took place on July 15 on charges of using violence against a government official.

The basis for the accusation was an incident that occurred on July 1 near "Baku Plaza." On that day, law enforcement agencies were conducting an operation to detain the head of the diaspora, Shakhin Shikhlinskiy, who was in a car with his son. When special forces began breaking the windows of the Mercedes Gelandewagen, the car driven by Mutvali began moving in reverse and hit a special forces officer.
