Syria and Iraq agreed to create a working mechanism for managing the border crossing

Syria and Iraq will create a joint mechanism for managing the strategic border crossing

The authorities of Syria and Iraq have reached an important agreement on creating a working mechanism for joint management of the "Et-Tanf" - "Al-Walid" border crossing, located on the border between the two states.

As reported by TUT.AZ, the SANA news agency announced a significant diplomatic breakthrough in relations between the two countries.

The key issue was discussed during an official meeting of the Iraqi delegation headed by intelligence service chief Hamid ash-Shatri and Syria's interim president Ahmed Ash-Sharaa. The negotiations took place on Friday at the "Qasr ash-Shaab" presidential palace in the Syrian capital Damascus.

It is worth noting that the border checkpoint has a dual name: on the Syrian side it is known as "Et-Tanf," and on the Iraqi side as "Al-Walid." This border area has long remained a zone of increased activity by armed groups.

According to SANA, during the meeting, President Ash-Sharaa particularly emphasized "the importance of joint cooperation to achieve security and stability in the region."
