Sophie Lorens son married a young Georgian woman and converted to Orthodox Christianity for her

Son of legendary Sophia Loren married a Georgian woman: conductor Carlo Ponti Jr. tied the knot with Mariam Sharmanashvili, who is 20 years younger than him. Touching footage of the ceremony appeared on Facebook thanks to Georgian singer Tamar Iveri.

In the published footage, you can see Sharmanashvili and Ponti Jr. in traditional Georgian attire heading to the altar accompanied by the majestic singing of a church choir. According to media reports, the famous movie diva's son converted to Orthodox Christianity for his chosen one.

The sacrament of marriage took place in the ancient Samtavro Monastery in Mtskheta, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The shrine was closed for 40 minutes for the ceremony, however, the 90-year-old mother of the groom did not attend the celebration. In a conversation with Georgian publication Ambebi, Sharmanashvili shared that the legendary actress plans to attend the couple's second wedding, which will take place in Geneva in September 2025.

Conductor Carlo Ponti Jr. is the son of Sophia Loren from her marriage to producer Carlo Ponti. The musician has children from previous relationships with Hungarian violinist Andrea Meszaros, and Sharmanashvili has two sons from a previous marriage. Interestingly, the couple met on social media.

Sophia Loren's 56-year-old son held the position of associate conductor of the Russian National Orchestra from 2000 to 2018, and in 2013 he moved to the USA. His 37-year-old bride works as a Zumba trainer.
