Samvel Karapetyan"s arrest has been extended

Court in Yerevan extended the arrest of Russian-Armenian businessman Samvel Karapetyan by two months

Armenian media report a new turn in the high-profile case of entrepreneur Samvel Karapetyan. Despite the fact that on Monday, August 11, the Yerevan Court of Appeal declared his arrest illegal, the anti-corruption court decided to extend his detention for another two months.

Recall that Karapetyan was taken into custody in June of this year. He is charged with public calls for seizure of power (part 2 of article 422 of the Criminal Code of Armenia). The petition to extend the arrest initially came from the investigator. The consideration of the application began on August 14, however, the hearing was postponed, and only now has the court issued its decision.
