Young mountain conqueror: nine-year-old mountaineer Frankie McMillan has climbed more than 700 mountains

McMillan began his mountaineering journey at the age of three. This summer, the brave boy conquered ten of Europe's highest peaks, including Slovakia's Gerlachovský štít (2655 m), Poland's Rysy (2499 m), and the Czech Republic's Sněžka (1603 m).

In three weeks, Frankie and his mom Basia climbed 15 mountains, with 11 of them exceeding 2000 meters in height. The conquest of the Tatra mountain range in Poland was especially significant for Basia – a dream she had cherished for many years.

"When we were sitting on the summit, I told Frankie 'I can't believe I'm here - and with you, and you're only nine. This has always been something that I thought only experienced mountaineers could do'," Basia shared.

According to his mother, the young mountaineer now shows more confidence in his abilities than she does herself. "He started rock climbing at three and has spent most of his life in the mountains," she explained. Mother and son had to overcome serious challenges. When climbing Mount Mnich, they had to ascend a vertical rock tower using ropes. And the ascent and descent of Rysy took a full 12 hours.

On Gerlachovský štít, Slovak authorities only allow mountaineers with special permits and accompanied by experienced guides. "It was the most technical activity we've ever undertaken, but Frankie really enjoyed it," Basia recounted.

Frankie and Basia plan to continue their mountain adventures next summer, undaunted by early rises, long treks, and even possible encounters with bears. The young summit conqueror will receive support from Athlete Media Group, which recently signed a contract with him. Frankie became the only child among the partners of this organization. Now he will promote a healthy and active lifestyle, inspiring others to spend more time in nature. "This will open up many opportunities for him," Basia is confident.
