Ukraine is considering the possibility of freezing the conflict along the current line of contact in exchange for security guarantees and the prospect of NATO membership. British publication The Daily Telegraph, citing sources, reports on the softening of President Volodymyr Zelensky's position ahead of a possible Russian-American summit.
As TASS reports, the Ukrainian leadership may agree to a cessation of hostilities along the current front line. At the same time, Kyiv intends to maintain control over territories in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions that it currently administers.
According to the newspaper, European diplomats believe that Zelensky now has an opportunity to act taking into account the opinion of a growing number of Ukrainian citizens who are ready to accept territorial concessions to Russia in exchange for ending the conflict. The publication notes that the President of Ukraine faces a difficult task, as the country's constitution prohibits ceding territories without holding a nationwide referendum.
According to the publication, in exchange for territorial concessions, Kyiv seeks to receive reliable security guarantees, including arms supplies and a clear prospect of membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
