NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during his upcoming visit to the United States intends to speak out against forcing Ukraine into a disadvantageous peace agreement with Russia.
As reported by TUT.AZ, the Financial Times (FT) informs about this, citing knowledgeable sources.
Rutte's visit is scheduled for April 24-25. According to the North Atlantic Alliance's press service, the Secretary General will hold talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.
Although the main purpose of Rutte's trip to Washington is to prepare for the NATO summit in June, according to the FT, the Secretary General will use meetings with key figures in US President Donald Trump's administration to convey an important message: "An unfair peace settlement that would satisfy Russian President Vladimir Putin will increase the threat to Europe."
"The main task is to make the Americans understand what is at stake," emphasized one of the FT sources. Additionally, Rutte plans to discuss optimal ways to transfer the "defense burden" from the US to Europe.
Earlier, Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's position on Crimea, calling it an obstacle to negotiations. According to The Wall Street Journal, recognition of Crimea as Russian territory is one of the key points in Washington's developing conflict resolution plan. Zelensky categorically ruled out the possibility of Ukraine giving up Crimea.
