India closes airspace to Pakistani aircraft for almost a month
Indian authorities have announced a complete ban on the use of their airspace for all Pakistani flights from April 30 to May 23, according to an official aviation notice NOTAM.
The restrictions will affect absolutely all aircraft "registered, operated, owned and leased by Pakistani airlines." The ban applies to both civil aviation and military aircraft.
Recall that on April 22, a bloody terrorist attack occurred in the tourist city of Pahalgam in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir, claiming the lives of 26 people. The Indian side immediately blamed neighboring Pakistan for the tragedy.
In response to the accusations, the Senate of Pakistan unanimously adopted a resolution categorically denying any involvement of Islamabad in this attack.
After the terrorist attack, relations between the two nuclear powers rapidly deteriorated. The countries have taken a number of mutual restrictive measures, including closing airspace and canceling visas, which has led to a sharp increase in tensions in the region.
