The Verkhovna Rada opened the doors to the army for Ukrainians over 60 years old: law on voluntary military service during martial law adopted
This is reported by Ukrainian media.
The legislative initiative received strong support from parliamentarians - 306 people's deputies voted "for". Bill No. 13229, submitted for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada back in April, successfully passed its first reading in June and has now been finally approved.
According to the adopted document, during the period of martial law, citizens aged 60 and over have the opportunity to conclude a one-year contract for military service with a two-month probationary period. A mandatory condition is having a letter of recommendation from the commander of the military unit and a positive conclusion from the military medical commission on fitness for service.
Elderly volunteers will be able to hold positions of:
- private, sergeant or petty officer ranks;
- junior or senior officer ranks (provided that these individuals were discharged from military service after January 1, 2015).
