Tragedy in Magnitogorsk Circus: young gymnast dies while performing dangerous stunt

The Investigative Committee of Russia has begun investigating a tragic incident at the Magnitogorsk State Circus in Chelyabinsk region, where a 22-year-old performer died during a performance.

According to the press service of the regional Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, on May 17, a young gymnast was performing a complex acrobatic stunt on the "Wheel of Courage" apparatus at a height of more than 4 meters without proper safety equipment. At a critical moment, the performer fell onto the circus arena. Despite promptly provided medical assistance, the young woman died in the ambulance.

Investigative authorities have opened a criminal case under part 2 of article 143 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Violation of labor protection requirements, resulting in death by negligence." An active investigation into the circumstances of the incident is currently underway.

"At present, the Investigative Committee of Russia has examined the scene of the incident, requested the necessary documentation, interrogated witnesses of the incident, [...] and is carrying out other investigative actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of what happened," the department noted.
