Pavel Durov: arrest in France damaged the country's image and yielded no results

The founder of the popular messenger Telegram, Pavel Durov, made a statement regarding his detention by French authorities last year. In a message published on his Telegram channel, the entrepreneur noted that after a year of investigation, French law enforcement agencies could not find any violations either on his part or on the part of the platform.

Durov especially emphasized that the content moderation system in Telegram fully "complies with industry standards," thereby refuting the authorities' claims.

"The irony is that I was arrested due to an error by the French police themselves: until August 2024, they ignored French laws and did not send their requests to Telegram through the legal procedure. The only result of my arrest was enormous damage to France's image as a free country," he wrote.
