Due to the enormous flow of mourners wishing to pay their last respects to the deceased Pope Francis, St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, where his coffin is on display, operated almost all night, reports TUT.AZ with reference to EFE.
Although according to the schedule the basilica was planned to close at midnight local time (02:00 Baku time - ed.), the doors of the temple remained open until 05:30 (07:30 Baku time - ed.). The closure was brief and necessary only for organizational work and cleaning, after which at 07:00 (09:00 Baku time - ed.) the basilica reopened its doors to the faithful.
The agency reminds that the farewell ceremony will continue until 19:00 (21:00 Baku time - ed.) on Friday, after which a solemn sealing ceremony of the coffin will be held.
The pontiff's funeral will take place on Saturday, April 26, in the famous Roman church of Santa Maria Maggiore.
