At the trial of Ruben Vardanyan, testimonies of victims and their legal successors were heard

On August 5, the high-profile trial of Ruben Vardanyan continued: the Armenian citizen is charged with crimes against humanity and terrorism

As reported by TUT.AZ, on Monday, another open hearing was held in the Baku Military Court on the high-profile case of Ruben Vardanyan. The trial is presided over by Judge Zeynal Agayev, with Anar Rzayev and Jamal Ramazanov also serving on the judicial panel, while Gunel Samedova has been appointed as the reserve judge. The accused was provided with a Russian language interpreter and a defense attorney of his choice.

During the court session, the court heard testimonies from victims and their legal successors, examining the circumstances of the case in detail.

The next court hearing is scheduled for August 12.

As a reminder, Ruben Vardanyan is charged with committing acts under Article 100 (planning, preparation, initiation or waging of aggressive war), 107 (deportation or forced resettlement of population), 109 (persecution), 112 (deprivation of liberty in violation of international law), 113 (use of torture), 114 (mercenary activities), 115 (violation of laws and customs of war), 116 (violation of international humanitarian law during armed conflicts), 214 (terrorism), 214-1 (financing of terrorism) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

Additionally, he is accused of committing acts under Articles 218 (organizing a criminal community (criminal organization), 228 (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of weapons, component parts, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices), 270-1 (acts creating a threat to aviation security), 278 (violent seizure of power or violent retention of power, violent change of the constitutional order of the state), 279 (creation of armed formations or groups not provided for by legislation), 318 (illegal crossing of the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
