Armed man held two women hostage in Dagestan

Drama in Dagestan: armed man took his ex-wife and her sister hostage over court's divorce decision

A tense situation unfolded on August 8 in the Tarumovsky district of the Republic of Dagestan, where a 62-year-old local resident, armed with a hunting rifle, broke into his ex-wife's house. At the time of the intrusion, the ex-wife's sister was also in the house.

The enraged man made an unusual demand — he insisted on meeting with the district judge and a prosecutor's representative, expressing categorical disagreement with the previously issued court decision regarding the divorce proceedings.

During tense negotiations, law enforcement achieved an initial success — one of the hostages, the ex-wife's sister, was released.

"After two hours, SOBR officers began the active phase of the operation to free the hostage. As a result of the measures taken by the Russian Guard, the criminal was neutralized, and the second hostage was also released unharmed," – according to the department's statement.

After the successful completion of the operation, the perpetrator was detained and taken to the police station. The rescue operation involved officers from the Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs together with fighters from the SOBR "Yastreb-Caspiy" unit of the Republic's Russian Guard.
