Powerful earthquake shook the waters of the Northern Kurils in the Pacific Ocean

As reported by TUT.AZ, a seismic event with a magnitude of 6.5 was recorded on Monday afternoon, according to information provided to "Interfax" by representatives of the Sakhalin branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 was registered on Monday at 15:20 Sakhalin time (08:20 Baku time - ed.) with an epicenter 232 km southeast of Severo-Kurilsk, the focus was at a depth of 62 km below the seabed," the agency specialist said.

According to the source, residents of Severo-Kurilsk felt underground tremors with a force of up to three to four points. There was no threat of a tsunami, and no alarm was declared.
