12 Newborns Died in Ecuador Hospital

Tragedy in Ecuador: 12 newborns died at the University Hospital of Guayaquil

A shocking incident occurred in early August at one of Ecuador's largest hospitals. Local authorities urgently began investigating the causes of the infants' deaths, reports EL Universo.

According to the official statement from the medical institution, the children's deaths occurred due to their clinical condition associated with complications caused by premature birth. They also noted that the death of two newborns happened due to complications resulting from the Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria entering their bodies.

The situation prompted an immediate response from authorities: the country's Minister of Health ordered the dismissal of the hospital director. The local prosecutor's office and ombudsman have already joined the investigation. As part of the inspection, the medical institution was required to provide detailed information about staff, the condition of hospital equipment, as well as complete financial reporting.
