Unexpected risk factor for heart disease discovered

Chronic insomnia increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases by almost one and a half times. A well-known British sleep expert raises alarm about the serious consequences of sleep deprivation, reports "Lenta.ru".

Ellie Hare, president of the British Sleep Society and an experienced sleep medicine physician, emphasizes that after just a single sleepless night, a person experiences a condition similar to a hangover – pronounced fatigue appears, irritability increases, and the likelihood of injuries significantly rises. The specialist particularly notes that systematic disruption of sleep patterns can cause catastrophic damage to both physical health and overall quality of life.

According to Dr. Hare, chronic sleep deprivation is not limited to just cardiovascular risks – it also provokes the development of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and metabolic syndrome. Drawing on her clinical experience, the sleep expert described numerous cases where chronic insomnia became a factor leading to career collapse and family breakdown.
