# How to Recognize Vitamin Deficiencies by Your Teeth: Tips from a Dentist

Bleeding gums, mouth ulcers, and tooth discoloration may indicate vitamin and mineral deficiencies in the body, but it is impossible to make a diagnosis based solely on these signs.

As reported by TUT.AZ citing "Gazeta.Ru," dentist Alexey Soshnikov explained that bleeding and inflammation of the gums are often associated with a lack of vitamin C. The appearance of mouth ulcers, a burning sensation, and redness of the tongue may indicate iron or vitamin B12 deficiency.

Children are particularly vulnerable to nutrient deficiencies: a lack of vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorus can disrupt tooth development, weaken enamel, and significantly increase the risk of cavities. At the same time, an excess of fluoride is no less dangerous — it can damage enamel and cause fluorosis.

Changes in tooth color may in some cases be linked to the use of medications. For instance, tetracycline antibiotics in children can stain developing teeth, while high doses of iron supplements can temporarily or even permanently alter their shade.

Experts emphasize that such symptoms do not constitute a definitive diagnosis. To determine the true cause of the changes, it is necessary to consult a doctor and, if needed, undergo laboratory tests.
