Nutritionist warned: drinking sweet beverages with food can become a "time bomb" for the body. Nutritionist Nadezhda Litvinova-Grazion in an interview with "Gazeta.Ru" revealed the dangerous consequences of this popular habit.
According to the expert, juices and sodas during meals primarily threaten the health of the digestive system. The acidic components present in such drinks aggressively affect the stomach lining, especially when they enter it simultaneously with food.
"Juices and carbonated drinks often contain large amounts of simple sugars. They are quickly absorbed, causing a sharp spike in blood glucose levels, which creates additional stress on the pancreas. For people with impaired glucose tolerance or diabetes, this is particularly dangerous," the doctor explained.
In addition, sweet drinks are a source of "empty" calories: they provide energy but contain virtually no beneficial substances, including fiber. Such calories are often not taken into account, but over time lead to excess total calorie intake and weight gain.
Also, carbonated and sweet drinks negatively affect the condition of teeth, contributing to the destruction of enamel.
"Long-term consumption of such drinks increases the risk of obesity, metabolic syndrome, type two diabetes and cardiovascular diseases," the specialist warned.
As an alternative, she recommended including water (including mineral and carbonated without additives), as well as unsweetened herbal or flavored teas in the diet.
