A balanced breakfast to support cardiovascular health should include eggs, berries, vegetables, nuts, dairy products, and sugar-free coffee. Spanish cardiologist Aurelio Rojas shared this in an interview with the publication ABC.
As the doctor emphasized, one of the key components of the morning meal is eggs. They are rich in protein, which provides a prolonged feeling of satiety and helps control appetite throughout the day.
In addition, the cardiologist strongly recommends adding sources of healthy fats to breakfast — nuts and avocado. These foods are packed with unsaturated fatty acids that stimulate brain function and have a beneficial effect on metabolism.
An equally important component of breakfast, according to the specialist, is fruits and berries.
"Kiwi, blueberries, and raspberries are rich in fiber, antioxidants, as well as vitamins C, B, and K. These compounds help protect cells from oxidative stress and support the normal functioning of the body," the specialist notes.
An excellent addition to such a breakfast would be fermented dairy products. In particular, kefir, as Rojas points out, helps maintain a healthy balance of intestinal microflora. Whole grain bread also deserves a place at the morning table: it provides the body with complex carbohydrates, helps maintain stable blood glucose levels, and provides a lasting feeling of satiety.
As for coffee, the specialist draws attention to the fact that the beverage may possess anti-inflammatory properties and potentially have a protective effect on the cardiovascular system. However, to derive maximum benefit, it should be consumed without the addition of sugar and artificial sweeteners.
