The main condition for reducing the risks of heart disease has been revealed

A sedentary lifestyle is literally killing the heart — an organ that vitally needs regular movement. The popular recommendation to walk 10,000 steps a day is actually a marketing gimmick, yet even such a benchmark is far better than a complete lack of physical activity. This was discussed in a conversation with RT by Andrey Kondrukhin, a general practitioner, cardiologist, and Candidate of Medical Sciences.

According to the specialist, with a sedentary lifestyle, the cardiovascular system is left without the exertion it needs. This triggers a chain reaction: the risk of gaining excess weight increases, deconditioning develops, and muscles gradually weaken. As a result, a person becomes unable to cope with even the most basic physical task.

"Diabetes, excess weight, and cardiovascular diseases all appear," warned Kondrukhin, emphasizing that the body vitally needs at least minimal but regular physical activity.

The cardiologist's main recommendation is active movement for at least 40 minutes daily. Without this, he says, the heart suffers greatly.
