June 21 has arrived on Earth - the longest day of the year
As reported by TUT.AZ, RIA Novosti, citing the Moscow Planetarium, reminded about an important astronomical event.
This special day is known as the summer solstice - it is on June 21 that the Sun visually pauses at the highest point of its maximum declination. This is what astronomers call the angle of the Earth's equator to which our star rises from the plane.
At this significant moment, the Sun reaches its most distant position from the celestial equator. For inhabitants of the Northern Hemisphere of Earth, astronomical summer begins, while in the Southern Hemisphere winter starts at this time.
Starting from this day, the duration of daylight will gradually decrease - until December 21, when the winter solstice will occur, and the annual cycle will continue its eternal cycle.
