The doctor warned about the serious danger of nighttime food consumption

Night snacking: a hidden health threat that increases the risk of vascular catastrophes

As "Moscow 24" has learned, consuming food at night can seriously disrupt carbohydrate metabolism and lead to dangerous consequences for the body. This warning came from dietitian and Doctor of Medical Sciences Mariyat Mukhina.

The specialist emphasized that nighttime fluctuations in glucose levels negatively affect the insulin system and pancreas. Over time, such disruptions can trigger the development of pancreatitis, diabetes, and a number of other serious diseases.

"At night, the gastrointestinal tract rests and does not produce the necessary amount of digestive enzymes. Therefore, food literally begins to rot. It is especially dangerous to consume fatty and protein-rich foods during this time. This increases blood fat levels and contributes to the development of atherosclerosis, which can result in heart attack or stroke," noted Mukhina.

The expert also drew attention to the fact that a full stomach at night creates a risk of its displacement into the chest cavity, which can lead to the formation of a hiatal hernia. This condition is particularly dangerous due to the possibility of internal bleeding, the specialist warns.
