Alarming Dementia Map: Scientists Identify Significant Regional Differences in Disease Prevalence Across the United States

A large-scale study conducted by specialists from the University of California, San Francisco, has revealed a shocking geography of dementia distribution in the United States. Using the Mid-Atlantic region as a baseline, scientists discovered impressive differences between various parts of the country.

The results proved to be quite revealing. In the Southeast of the North Atlantic region, the frequency of senile dementia cases exceeded the baseline level by a full 25%. The Northwest and Rocky Mountain area also demonstrated alarming statistics - here dementia rates were higher by 23%. Southern states showed an excess of 18%, while the Southwest, including California, showed 13%. Even the Northeast of the country, where New York is located, demonstrated an excess of 7% above the baseline level.

It is particularly important to note that the identified regional differences persisted even after adjusting the data to account for factors such as age, racial background, and the presence of cardiovascular diseases. Notably, this pattern was observed not only in urban centers but also in rural areas.
