Genetics or micronutrient deficiency: expert reveals true causes of premature graying

According to specialists, heredity plays a key role in the appearance of early gray hair, however there are other important factors as well. Dermatologist, endocrinologist and genetics specialist, candidate of medical sciences Irina Skorogudaeva told Pravda.Ru in detail about the nuances of this process.

According to the expert, genetic predisposition is the determining factor that is practically impossible to correct. Interestingly, people with a hereditary tendency toward early graying much less frequently face the problem of baldness. Additionally, Skorogudaeva highlighted another important factor — copper deficiency in the body.

"In such cases, the use of medications can slightly slow down the process, but not stop it completely if there is a genetic predisposition. Furthermore, excessive intake of zinc can disrupt copper absorption, which leads to its deficiency and, as a consequence, accelerates graying. Therefore, it's important to take any microelements under a doctor's supervision," Skorogudaeva emphasized.
