Popular Beverage Recognized as a Reliable Protector of the Cardiovascular System

Scientists have made an unexpected discovery: just one cup of coffee a day can protect against dangerous cardiac arrhythmia. Researchers from three countries conducted a randomized study for the first time, which completely changes the understanding of caffeine's effect on heart health.

As reported by TUT.AZ, the results of this revolutionary study were published in the prestigious scientific journal JAMA.

The large-scale DECAF study involved 200 patients suffering from persistent atrial fibrillation and preparing for electrical cardioversion to restore normal heart rhythm. The scientists divided the participants into two equal groups: the first group was instructed to consume at least one cup of coffee daily, while the second group had to completely eliminate caffeine from their diet for six months.

The data obtained surprised even the researchers themselves: coffee lovers had a 39 percent reduced risk of dangerous arrhythmia recurrence (47 percent in the caffeine group versus 64 percent in the abstention group). Notably, no negative consequences or complications were found in the study participants.

The study authors emphasize that their discovery destroys years of medical stereotypes about the harm of caffeine to the cardiovascular system. According to the scientific team leader Dr. Christopher Wong, coffee most likely has anti-inflammatory properties and helps stabilize heart rhythm, making this beverage not just safe but potentially beneficial for most patients with heart diseases.
