Cherries under scientific scrutiny: nutritionists reveal the impact of the popular berry on health and weight. International studies have shown that the high content of sugars and acids in cherries can significantly affect weight and digestive system function. This was reported by leading Russian nutritionist Natalia Lazurenko.
The expert notes the dual role of simple sugars in the composition of these fruits: on one hand, they provide the body with necessary energy and increase activity.
"However, cherries are sweet and juicy, and few people stop at 20 fruits, especially during the season. When overindulging, the body becomes oversaturated, and it's difficult for it to cope with the incoming simple carbohydrates," the specialist emphasized.
Studies show that unabsorbed carbohydrates inevitably transform into fat deposits, leading to unwanted weight gain.
"Patients who monitor their blood glucose levels throughout the day or suffer from diabetes need to be very careful with cherries," warns Natalia Lazurenko.
International nutritionists also draw attention to the content of organic acids in cherries, which actively affect the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract. This means that with conditions such as gastritis, gastroduodenitis, and other pathologies, excessive consumption of cherries can provoke serious flare-ups.
"When there are no health issues, it's permissible to eat up to 300 grams, preferably during the day or in the morning, so that glucose doesn't get stored in fat cells," the expert recommends.
Specialists emphasize that even with health problems, it's not recommended to completely exclude cherries from the diet, as the body needs various vitamins and microelements. However, in such cases, it is extremely important to consult with a doctor who will develop an individual plan for consuming seasonal berries, concluded Dr. Lazurenko.
