Scientists have discovered: blood type A is a real magnet for parasites! Studies have shown that people with type A blood are significantly more likely to suffer from parasitic infections than others.
Why does this happen?
It turns out that parasites such as the malaria plasmodium, giardia, and various helminths use specific molecules on the surface of blood cells as "entry gates" into the body. In people with type A blood, these molecular structures are particularly pronounced, making them ideal targets for parasites.
What other blood types are at risk?
Type O blood - demonstrates increased resistance to malaria, however remains vulnerable to other types of parasites.
Type B and AB blood - are in an intermediate position in terms of risk level.
How to protect yourself?
Doctors recommend:
- Maintain hygiene
- Thoroughly process food and water
- Regularly get tested when visiting endemic regions
