Summer tan: between benefits and health risks

As reported by TUT.AZ, with the arrival of the hot season, millions of Russians flock to beaches in pursuit of the perfect bronze skin tone. However, medical specialists are sounding the alarm: sunlight can be both an ally and an enemy to our body.

Among the beneficial effects of tanning, doctors note the production of vitamin D, which plays a key role in strengthening bone tissue, maintaining immunity, and overall body tone. Sunlight also promotes the production of happiness hormones, improves sleep quality, and stimulates metabolic processes.

However, specialists warn: even brief exposure to intense sunlight can result in serious burns, premature skin aging, and significantly increase the likelihood of developing oncological diseases, including melanoma – one of the most dangerous forms of cancer.

Those at increased risk include people with fair skin, people with freckles, multiple moles, as well as children. Dermatologists strongly recommend avoiding sunbathing during the period of maximum solar activity – from 11:00 to 16:00, always using sunscreen with a high protection factor, and not forgetting about headwear.

Thus, tanning can benefit the body only if all precautions are observed. A sensible approach and reliable protection – that's what will help turn sunlight into a source of health rather than problems.
