Does water consumption affect weight loss?

The key to weight loss is in a glass: scientists prove that regular water consumption significantly accelerates the fat burning process

Endocrinologist Yulia Atamanova told Gazeta.ru about this.

"First, water promotes fat breakdown. When dehydrated, this process slows down. Second, adequate fluid intake accelerates metabolism. One study showed that consuming 2 liters of water per day increases energy expenditure by approximately 100 calories. Third, water can reduce the portion size you eat: people who drink two glasses of water immediately before eating consume approximately 22% less than those who don't drink water before meals. Finally, sometimes we confuse thirst with hunger, and regular water consumption helps avoid this," explained Atamanova.

Additionally, water contains no calories, and if you drink it instead of juices or sodas, you can significantly reduce your daily calorie intake. It's important to drink water specifically, not coffee or tea.

Often hot tea or coffee, even without milk and sugar, can stimulate a person to eat more. After all, the habit of drinking tea with something sweet has formed over years, and it's extremely difficult to break.

"You can tell if you're drinking enough by the color of your urine. If it's translucent with a light yellow tint - that's good. If it's concentrated - you're not drinking enough. To remember to drink water, it's best to always carry a water bottle with you," the doctor concluded.
