Doctor explained the dangers of completely eliminating sugar

Gastroenterologist warns: complete elimination of sugar can cause serious harm to health

As reported by TUT.AZ, renowned gastroenterologist Megan Rossi in an interview with Daily Mirror debunked the popular myth about the benefits of completely eliminating sugar.

The expert explained that it's practically impossible to completely exclude sugar from the diet, as it and its analogues are contained in many food products - from fruits and vegetables to fermented dairy products. "Complete elimination of such products is dangerous, as it can lead to vitamin deficiency, lack of antioxidants, metabolic disorders, and deterioration of psycho-emotional state," emphasized the specialist.

At the same time, the doctor noted that sugar in desserts and sweets does not differ in its effect from sugar from natural sources. In moderate amounts, it is safe for the body, however, its excess contributes to the development of obesity and related diseases. Based on this, Rossi recommends not excluding sugar completely and allowing yourself any sweet products, but maintaining moderation. To determine your individual norm, she suggests asking yourself three key questions: "Do I crave sweets?", "Is this craving intensifying?", "Are sweets replacing a full meal?". If the answers are positive, the gastroenterologist advises reducing daily consumption of sweets.
