The Pope welcomed the signing of a peace declaration by Azerbaijan and Armenia

Pope Leo XIV welcomed the historic peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan

"Let us continue to pray for the end of wars. I congratulate Armenia and Azerbaijan on signing a joint declaration of peace. I hope this will serve to establish lasting peace in the Caucasus," said the pontiff during his traditional Sunday sermon. The head of the Catholic Church also reminded about the responsibility for decisions that should take into account the interests of peoples.

It should be noted that the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint declaration on Friday following a trilateral meeting in Washington with US President Donald Trump. The document contains seven points emphasizing Baku and Yerevan's commitment to peace. The declaration notes that the parties have initialed the agreed text of an agreement on establishing peace and restoring relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and also committed to making efforts for its final ratification.
