The first court hearing in the case of Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan will take place on August 15.

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to Armenian media, the case of the high-ranking church official will soon appear before the court.

Recall that Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan was taken into custody on June 28 by decision of the Yerevan Court of First Instance. The arrest period was set for two months. The clergyman is charged with public calls to overthrow the current government in Armenia.

Earlier, on June 25, law enforcement agencies conducted a series of searches and detentions, resulting in the arrest of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, who led the "Sacred Struggle" movement, as well as several of his followers. The Investigative Committee of Armenia announced the prevention of an attempted armed seizure of power. According to official data, the detainees are charged with preparing terrorist acts, organizing mass riots, and attempting to forcibly change the government in the country.
