Dalai Lama XIV officially confirmed the continuation of the institution of Tibet's spiritual leaders
The spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism announced that the institution of the Dalai Lamas will not be interrupted after his departure, reports RIA Novosti.
According to Buddhist tradition, the Dalai Lama is considered a living embodiment of the bodhisattva of compassion Avalokiteshvara. As the current Dalai Lama approaches his 90th birthday, which will be celebrated in 2025, the question of succession becomes increasingly relevant.
"In accordance with all these requests, I affirm that the institution of the Dalai Lama will continue," states the official announcement published on his website. The spiritual leader explained that he was prompted to make this decision by numerous appeals from representatives of Tibetan spiritual traditions, the parliament in exile, and Buddhists from around the world.
The 14th Dalai Lama reminded that the procedure for recognizing his successor has already been clearly defined: it is outlined in his statement from September 24, 2011.
The responsibility for finding and recognizing the new Dalai Lama will be entrusted exclusively to the Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama. The spiritual leader specifically emphasized that only this body is authorized to conduct all necessary procedures for searching and identifying the reincarnation, acting in cooperation with the heads of Buddhist traditions and the guardians of the Dharma.
