US blocks adoption of joint statement following G7 finance ministers meeting in Canada
According to the reputable publication Politico, the United States has firmly refused to support a joint statement from participants of the G7 finance ministers meeting held on Canadian territory.
According to informed sources, the American delegation categorically opposed the inclusion of wording about "further support" for Ukraine in the final document. Moreover, US representatives insistently demand the complete removal of any mentions of the "illegality" of Russia's actions on Ukrainian territory from the text.
The White House openly states that it sees no point in adopting a declaration "just for the sake of making a statement." Administration officials particularly emphasize the need to achieve a real consensus within the G7 that would fully align with the key priorities of President Donald Trump's foreign policy.
