Media: Russia refused to extradite former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad

Syrian leader Ahmed Ash-Sharaa in an exclusive interview with The New York Times revealed details of negotiations with Russia regarding the extradition of former president Bashar al-Assad. According to him, Moscow categorically refused to satisfy the request of the new Syrian government, reports TUT.AZ.

"It is necessary to take these interests into account," emphasized the interim president of Syria in a conversation with journalists.

Ahmed Ash-Sharaa also reminded about the long-standing support that Russia has provided to the Syrian authorities. The Syrian leader expressed hope for the continuation of this strategic alliance in the future.

The head of state particularly noted the importance of considering Moscow's interests, arguing that Syria may need Russian assistance in the further reconstruction of the country.
