Man with a doctoral degree became a courier after 10 job rejections

Highly educated Chinese man with Oxford diplomas and a doctoral degree became a courier after a series of employment rejections

Ding Yuanzhao, holder of a prestigious Oxford master's degree and a doctoral degree from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, found himself at a career crossroads. After his contract ended in March 2023, the highly qualified specialist faced an unexpected reality – more than ten employers rejected him during job interviews.

"I didn't expect my experience would end with such a job search," he shared his concerns.

Faced with harsh reality, the 39-year-old man made an unconventional decision – he became a courier. Initially, he worked in Singapore, where he earned about 700 dollars a week for a 10-hour workday. Later, Ding moved to Beijing, where he now works for one of the leading delivery platforms. Surprisingly, he doesn't regret his choice.

"It's a stable job. With this income, I can support my family. If you work hard, you can earn enough for a decent life. It's not a bad job," the Chinese man explains.

He also noted an unexpected bonus of his new profession – the ability to combine work with his favorite hobby, running. According to Ding, constant movement and being outdoors are undeniable advantages of his current activity.

The story of the highly educated courier caused a strong reaction on social media. Many users express admiration for his resilience and ability to accept life circumstances. Others see in his choice a vivid example of flexibility and ability to adapt in the highly competitive conditions of the modern labor market.

Currently, Yuanzhao continues to work as a courier and says that he has found stability, meaning, and even pleasure in this job.
