The "world's kindest judge" has passed away: Frank Caprio died at 88 after battling cancer
"His legacy lives on in the countless kind acts of people he inspired. In his honor, we will try to bring a little more compassion into the world - just as he did every day," says the touching message on the judge's official Facebook page.
The legendary Frank Caprio, who dedicated 38 years to working in the Providence Municipal Court (Rhode Island), became a true internet sensation thanks to the court show "Caught in Providence." Video clips featuring him spread like wildfire across social media, and 1.6 million followers watched his kind decisions on TikTok. The popular program was nominated four times for the prestigious Daytime Emmy Award.
Caprio earned the unofficial title of "world's kindest judge" thanks to his extraordinary compassion and humanity. He often involved defendants' children in decision-making and frequently reduced fines, showing understanding for people's life circumstances.
Last December, the judge recorded a sincere video message in which he revealed his diagnosis - pancreatic cancer, which, as became known on August 21, was the cause of his death.
