It became known who will represent the USA at negotiations with Iran

The administration of US President Donald Trump has appointed Michael Anton, the Director of Policy Planning at the State Department, as the head of the American delegation for expert technical consultations with Iran.

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to Politico newspaper, the information came from informed sources.

According to available data, the first round of consultations will take place this coming weekend. These meetings will serve as a preparatory stage before the key negotiations between US Presidential Special Envoy Stephen Whitcoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi, scheduled for next week in Rome.

The publication emphasizes that the US position remains unclear: whether Washington will insist on a complete dismantling of Iran's nuclear program or seek a compromise agreement that would allow Tehran to maintain certain facilities under strict international control and inspections.

On April 12, the first round of indirect talks between US and Iranian representatives took place in Muscat, mediated by Oman, focusing on the situation surrounding the Islamic republic's nuclear program. The Iranian delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi, while the American delegation was led by US Presidential Special Envoy Stephen Whitcoff. On April 19, a second round of indirect negotiations between the Iranian and American sides was held in Rome with Oman's mediation. According to Aragchi, the parties reached greater mutual understanding on a number of issues. The next round of negotiations between Aragchi and Whitcoff is scheduled for April 26.
