Shocking discovery: a two-kilogram hairball removed from Chinese schoolgirl's stomach
Doctors at a clinic in China performed a unique operation, removing a huge hairball weighing two kilograms from the stomach of a 15-year-old girl, reports the South China Morning Post.
The young patient was brought to the medical facility with serious symptoms: excruciating abdominal pain, lack of appetite, and dizziness. Doctors were shocked by the girl's condition - at a height of 160 centimeters, she weighed only 35 kilograms. Examination revealed that the teenager had a severe form of anemia.
As the schoolgirl's mother explained, for six years her daughter had suffered from an unusual mental disorder - trichophagia, in which a person pulls out and eats their own hair. Diagnostics showed that a dense ball of hair and food residue had formed in the girl's stomach, completely filling the organ and disrupting the digestive system.
Surgical intervention revealed that the patient's stomach had doubled in size compared to normal dimensions. The operation was successful - doctors were able to completely remove the foreign body, and after just five days, the girl was able to return to normal eating.
Medical specialists emphasize that trichophagia requires a serious comprehensive approach to treatment, including a special diet, psychiatric help, and drug therapy.
