Diver found remains of spouses at the bottom of a river and solved the mystery of their disappearance 67 years ago

67-year-old mystery solved: diver discovers sunken car with remains of missing family at the bottom of the Columbia River. This is reported by Oregon Live.

In March of this year, diver Jared Leisek made an amazing discovery – at the bottom of the Columbia River, he came across a sunken car. Only in August, after painstaking work to clear debris, was he able to reach the vehicle. Inside the 1950s Ford, human remains and a camera with the owner's name engraved – Ken Martin – were found. Specialists believe that the bones belong to him and his wife Barbara.

The Martin family disappeared without a trace on December 7, 1958, during a trip with their three teenage children. A year after the tragedy, the bodies of two younger daughters were found in the river, but the rest of the family members were listed as missing. Law enforcement agencies put forward a version about the car accidentally driving into the water, while local residents created grim theories about what happened. After almost seven decades, the mystery has finally been resolved thanks to the persistence of an enthusiastic diver.

The story of the Martin family's disappearance interested Jared Leisek seven years ago. Delving into archival materials, he learned about the existence of a deep underwater depression capable of pulling in large objects. The fatal depression was located in close proximity to the parking lot, which could have been a key factor in the chain of tragic events.

At the moment, the police are refraining from officially closing the case. The discovered remains have been sent for examination. It is possible that among the found bones there may also be remains of the Martin family's third child.
