Massive blackout in southern France: perpetrators left 160 thousand people without electricity on the eve of the Cannes Festival closing
According to Franceinfo, the sudden power outage in Cannes and southern regions of France was caused by deliberate actions of unknown individuals. The perpetrators set fire to an electrical substation in the municipality of Tannerons, after which they committed sabotage on power lines. Currently, investigators are working at the sites to determine all the circumstances of the incident.
As a result of these actions, about 160 thousand residents were left without electricity. Notably, the massive outage occurred on the eve of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival closing ceremony, scheduled for May 24.
Earlier, there was information that recent power outages in Spain and Portugal could also have been the result of sabotage.
Recall that on April 28, residents of Spain, Portugal, and French territories bordering the Iberian Peninsula faced a sudden and massive power outage.
The consequences were serious: traffic lights, metro systems, airports stopped functioning in cities, railway communications and vehicle movement in automobile tunnels were suspended. Almost all banks, cafes, and shops were forced to close, residential buildings were left without light, and there were significant disruptions in mobile communications.
