Powerful magnetic storm hits Earth: scientists record dangerous G3 level
Our planet has been hit by a significant G3 level magnetic storm, reports TUT.AZ with reference to TASS. According to international classification, this level is considered a serious geomagnetic disturbance in a five-point system, where G1 indicates a "weak" storm, and G5 - an "extremely strong" one.
Geomagnetic fluctuations of this magnitude pose a potential threat to Earth's infrastructure. Experts note the risk of significant disruptions in power systems, including possible false alarms in protective devices and critical overheating of oil transformers to a "boiling" state.
Specialists also warn about possible interruptions in satellite and low-frequency radio navigation, as well as disruptions in high-frequency radio communication. Notably, residents of middle latitudes will have a rare opportunity to observe a fascinating natural phenomenon - the aurora borealis.
