Two simple ways to lose weight without dieting revealed

The sleep hormone and a cool bedroom temperature can trigger similar processes in adipose tissue, preventing its excessive accumulation. This was explained by a Russian specialist in the field of endocrinology and gerontology.

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to Gazeta.Ru, Associate Professor at Pirogov University, endocrinologist Lyubov Machekhina explained that receptors for the sleep hormone — melatonin — are located in human adipose tissue. These are the MT1 and MT2 receptors, interaction with which triggers processes that directly affect metabolism.

According to the specialist, when these receptors are activated, adipogenesis is enhanced in the body — a process in which white fat cells can be converted into brown ones. Such cells are considered more "metabolically active": they participate in energy production and help reduce risks associated with excessive accumulation of adipose tissue.

The expert clarified that the effect on melatonin receptors theoretically makes it possible to regulate the number of white adipocytes and partially convert them into brown cells, which has a beneficial effect on metabolism.

At the same time, the doctor emphasized: the use of melatonin-containing medications, for example for weight loss, has not yet received sufficient clinical confirmation. To date, such practice has not been recognized as a scientifically proven method for treating obesity.

Machekhina also drew attention to the fact that a similar mechanism in the body can be activated at lower ambient temperatures. This is precisely why specialists recommend sleeping in a well-ventilated and slightly cool room, preferably in complete darkness — this helps maintain natural biological rhythms.

In addition, melatonin affects more than just fat metabolism. According to the doctor, the hormone can increase tissue sensitivity to insulin and participate in the regulation of proteins known as sirtuins — which are associated with processes of active longevity.

The expert emphasizes: to maintain health, it is important to follow circadian rhythms, sleep in a darkened room, and if necessary, take melatonin supplements only after consulting a specialist.
