Mushrooms top the rating of dangerous products for home canning, causing the highest number of serious poisonings. Dietitian Natalia Pavlyuk told this in an interview with "Radio 1".
"Most often I have encountered mushroom poisonings. This is confirmed by statistics: mushrooms are the leader in the number of severe poisonings, including in salted form," the expert noted.
The danger, according to the specialist, lies in the ability of mushrooms to actively absorb harmful substances from the soil. In addition, there is a high risk of confusing edible mushrooms with their poisonous counterparts.
When preparing homemade preserves from mushrooms, special caution must be exercised. Pavlyuk emphasized that with the slightest doubt about the quality of the product, it is better to completely refuse to preserve it.
