Extreme weight loss before summer can lead to serious health problems, medical professionals warn.
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to Life.ru, general practitioner Nadezhda Chernyshova urged people to abandon attempts to rapidly shed weight ahead of beach season, citing serious risks to the body.
According to the specialist, the human body has learned over millennia of evolution to survive under conditions of food scarcity. Foreign experts in the field of dietetics confirm: when calories are sharply cut, the body perceives what is happening as a direct threat and immediately activates the so-called "survival mode."
The consequences turn out to be the exact opposite of what is expected — metabolism slows down, and instead of burning fat, the body switches to intensive energy storage. At the same time, the hormonal system malfunctions, including disruption of thyroid function, which can seriously impact overall well-being.
In addition, as specialists emphasize, strict diets trigger a surge in the stress hormone cortisol, which only exacerbates the situation. The body is also deprived of vital vitamins and micronutrients, without which normal hormone regulation is simply impossible.
Chernyshova drew attention to the fact that the thyroid gland is extremely sensitive to any changes: even minor fluctuations in hormone levels can significantly affect one's health.
Instead of extreme diets, the expert strongly recommended choosing gradual and sustainable weight loss. According to specialists, the key to success is adequate sleep, stress management, and a balanced diet.
