Turmeric in the diet can reduce chronic pain in adults
New research shows that regular consumption of turmeric can significantly reduce the intensity of chronic pain in people over 40 years of age.
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to the scientific journal Nutrients, a group of researchers conducted a randomized crossover clinical trial involving 30 adults suffering from moderate chronic pain. During the experiment, volunteers took turmeric in normal culinary dosages (300 mg, 1 g or 3 g) for 21 days - either alone or in combination with black pepper. Pain levels were recorded three times a day via text messages.
The study found that by the end of the three-week period, average pain scores had significantly decreased compared to baseline values. Notably, supplementing turmeric with black pepper or increasing its dosage within normal culinary amounts did not enhance the analgesic effect.
The scientists emphasize that this pilot study was conducted on a limited group of participants, predominantly middle-aged and elderly women. However, the results obtained indicate the potential benefit of common food spices as a simple, accessible, and effective addition to chronic pain management strategies.
