Nutrition specialists particularly highlight peppermint-infused drinks, which have earned recognition for their healing properties, writes Prevention. Despite the importance of consuming sufficient fiber and fluids for normal digestion, in some cases the body needs additional support - that's when peppermint tea shows its best qualities.
Lauren Manaker, a recognized expert in dietetics, emphasizes the special effectiveness of mint tea for symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome - gas, bloating and pain in the abdominal cavity. This beneficial effect is due to the natural peppermint oil contained in the drink.
"The powerful ingredient in this tea is menthol, a natural compound that has an antispasmodic effect on the smooth muscles of the digestive tract," explained Manaker.
Menthol helps relax the muscles of the stomach and intestines, which can ease pain-causing spasms. This mechanism also facilitates easier gas passage, reducing bloating. A cup of mint tea after a heavy meal can refresh the intestines.
The expert recommends consuming mint tea after meals or before bedtime to calm the body. According to her, the optimal dosage is one to three cups daily - this is enough to achieve a noticeable positive effect.
