Alarming signals in the mouth: expert explains symptoms that deserve attention

According to TUT.AZ with reference to Izvestia, periodontologist, dentist and expert at REVIXAN company Anastasia Kardakova warned that white coating, ulcers, bleeding or tooth mobility may indicate serious diseases, not just insufficient oral hygiene.

The specialist explained that a thin coating on the tongue in the morning is normal. However, one should be concerned when a dense, curd-like coating appears, accompanied by a burning sensation. When attempting to remove it, such coating comes off only partially, leaving an inflamed surface of the tongue. Kardakova strongly recommends against cleaning the tongue "to blood" and advises seeking medical attention promptly.

Regarding mouth ulcers, they most often occur after mechanical injuries—biting, injury from a sharp edge of a filling or a hard toothbrush—and usually heal within 7-10 days. Special vigilance should be exercised if an ulcer persists for more than two weeks, becomes denser, painless, or develops irregular edges. The dentist emphasized that such changes are especially dangerous for smokers and people who abuse alcohol, as they may be signs of precancerous conditions.
